Impeachment

Charles Krauthammer suggested/predicted on Brit Hume's program that Democrats are setting the stage for Bush's impeachment on pre-war intelligence fixing should they gain majorities in 2006. Seems plausible. Even if it fails, it will do incredible damage to Republicans, but more especially to American interests.

Did Krauthammer specify what sort of charges they would bring? Would it be something nebulous like "Abusing the office" to fix the intel? How do they prove that? At least with Clinton, there was a clear, actual crime committed. The Preisdency doesn't have a "conduct unbecomming" clause. Though I agree they desperately WANT to try to impeach him. And Cheney.

As Gerald Ford said during the Watergate affair, "high crimes and misdemeanours" means whatever the current Congress says it means. Several of the charges against Nixon were not crimes, and though we don't know whether he would have been impeached on those counts, I wouldn't risk any money on the proposition that he wouldn't.

Well, we may finally have found a good reason why we should want the Republicans to keep their House majority. Lately I've been looking for one.
